Every March the week after the Philadelphia Flower Show, the Peter Becker Retirement Community of Harleysville, Pennsylvania holds a Flower Show revolving around a central theme. This year's theme was "See You In The Movies" highlighting scenes from Singing in the Rain, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Mary Poppins. I went this past Friday afternoon my first time ever. It was well worth it. In some of the displays, they used live characters dressed according to that time era. In the Willie Wonka display, the gardens are supposed to have been entirely edible. Below are a few photos I took at the event.
Pictures from previous shows can be found at the Peter Becker web site at The Enchanted Garden for the year 2005 and Past Flower Shows for the years 1994 through 2004. For those who may wonder, the Peter Becker Retirement Community is historically related to the Church of the Brethren but seeks to serve Seniors of all faiths.

It looks like a LOT of work went into that... Spring has sprung!
yay!
I love flowers! The displays look beautiful, and a lot of work.
Wow, they did an awesome job. It was always a dream of mine to get into Willy Wonka's factory. I am jealous!
I love Roald Dahl´s Childrens books. "CHARLIE and the Chocolate Factory" is an all-time favourite of mine. Gosh, I wish I had an opportunity to see that garden with my own eyes!
I really enjoy garden shows, there's a good one in Chicago each March but this year we sat it out. Awesome pics!
The colours used are so vibrant.I like the way every colour is a true colour and not blended, one could easily 'consume' displays like that..mmm yummy!!
Hi, shelleigh. I'm sure there were many hours put into it. It's my understanding though that these displays were the creations of the residents working together in the retirement community.
So do I, rubysoho. And I was wowed by the displays while I was there.
I'm glad they could impress you, san nakji.
Hi, minka. I'm sure you would have enjoyed seeing it with your own eyes. And the old Willie Wonka movie is a favorite of mine.
Thanks, crystal. This wasn't a large garden show square feet wise. But what they did with the space they had was truly impressive.
Hi, consise10. I'm glad you found these displays attractive and good enough to want to eat. :)
Since I worked in assisted living for 2 years, I am enchanted by this. It's a great idea!
Thanks, ginnie. It's my guess that many a senior citizen found pleasure in helping to put this together.
