Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, No. 3, part 3

These photos are from Monday evening hiking in the woods at the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy near Schwenksville, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Okay, the last two pictures were back out in the meadow. It is a place of joyful solitude for me.

Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, No. 3, part 2

Monday evening when I was at the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy near Schwenksville, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, I saw multitudes of butterflies in the meadows. Below are just a few pictures of them. It was also beautiful watching them soar into the air sometimes settling high up on trees near the wood's edge. I would have loved to have taken some photos of them soaring; but for that unfortunately I wasn't quick enough. My next post will take us into the woods and and back out again into the meadows where I was being watched!

A Collusion of Colors and Patterns

Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, No. 3, part 1

Come, walk with me this autumnal eve.

Last evening, I went for a walk at the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy near Schwenksville, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. This first part will mostly show autumn meadow scenes. In part two, I will have some butterfly pictures. For those who live near here, I strongly recommend visiting the grounds of the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy - both the meadows and the woodland.

The order of the pictures is the sequential order of my encounter with the scenes.

Big Bend National Park, No. 2, Santa Elena Canyon

In my last post on Big Bend National Park down at the bottom of Texas next to Mexico, I showed some of the cactus life there. In this post, I'll be focusing on some of the geological and landscape features of the Santa Elena Canyon and the Rio Grande River in Big Bend. All pictures were taken in May of 1997.

The walls of the Santa Elena Canyon are 1500 feet high.

The Rio Grande flowing through the Santa Elena Canyon
My hike took a U-turn here.

When I came out of the Santa Elena Canyon, I had to cross through a feeder creek to the Rio Grande. The water was up over my knees and covered a stretch across of thirty to forty feet. It had been a dry creek bed as pictured below when I first started my hike that morning.

If these pictures attract you to the Santa Elena Canyon, you might want to check out this Southwest Paddlers web page.

Just a short note

This week and next, my work schedule may interfere with my blogging activities. Yesterday, I worked two hours overtime and today I worked three hours overtime already. Next week, the small grocery store chain that I work for is opening its fourth store in Vernfield, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. I work in the bakery at the Telford, Bucks County store that does most of the scratch baking for the rest of the stores. So we have been asked to keep a flexible schedule. I'll post and visit as able; but if you see a temporary slow down or stopping, you now know why.

My Church's Junior Youth Swim Party

This past Sunday, I helped with my church's Junior Youth swim party. It began around three in the afternoon and ended around seven in the evening. Below are some pictures of the activities that afternoon/evening.

While this was suppose to be a swim party, the first part of the afternoon, it wasn't and then only a few came out to have fun intially. Here a water volleyball game has begun.

What kept many of the Junior Youth from the water was a football game between the Eagles and the Giants. Here in the facial and body expressions of four of the youth I think one can detect the moments of ectasy and agony of the game. Ultimately, it was the agony. The Eagles lost - too many fumbles.

A few more youth in the water now. I think the football game was either just about over or over when the picture was taken. Some of the youth were probably still changing into their swim suits.

With the exception of the last picture, the pictures that follow show some organized games that the youth sponsors had planned.

In this activity, the objective was to be the first person to remove the shaving cream from their partner's chin by the spray of a small plastic water gun.

These youth had to race through eating a plate of whipped cream without the use of their hands, and then chew the red bubble gum, and try to be the first to blow a real bubble. I love many of their expressions and facial appearances.

Here's a game involving shaving cream and corn curls. The object was to get as many corn curls sticking to your partner's face as possible as illustrated in the picture above and below. The guy in the black t-shirt on the left in both pictures is our full time associate pastor who works half time with our youth.

A jello eating contest. We started them with straws; but that was going to slow. So we allowed them to eat it without the use of their hands.

This was near the end of the evening. Many of junior youth gathered round in the wading pool for a social time together. It was a fun time together.

Green Lane Nature Hike, No. 2, The Beinning of Fall

This evening I went on a nature hike near Green Lane, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The hike was near the Green Lane Reservoir but for the most part not at it. It was a mostly cloudy evening with the sun breaking through at times.

[Sage identified this for me. I then researched it on the Web and found out that while it may look like a fungus, it is not a fungus but a flowering plant.]
