Big Bend National Park, No. 4, Wildflowers

This is the last of my posts on my May 1997 visit to Big Bend National Park down at the bottom of Texas next to Mexico. Unfortunately, I do not know the names of most of these wildflowers. If you get a chance to visit Big Bend National Park particularly during Spring time, I highly recommend it.

It never ceases to amaze me how the desert can be full of these incredible specimens of glory!

Thanks, reflex. And it's so much prettier in person.

Hi, murf. That plant is quite interesting, isn't it?

Hi, choochoo. I like your plant description. :) I checked Wikipedia and did some Googling and I believe the plant's official name is "Yucca rostrata". In Wikipedia, they listed 48 varieties of Yuccas.

Thanks, christina. It is a beautiful area and especially so in the spring when the desert is alive.

Hi, ginnie. And of course, I didn't show near all of the desert flower beauty. The time I was there was actually near the end of the spring flowering season.

Hi, i*iuchei*i©. Thanks for coming by. You appear to be a creative person. :)

Thanks for the Indian paintbrushes and bluebonnets. It makes me kind of homesick.

Beautiful bright flowers. Some of them look familiar but I don't know what they're called. Very nice shots.

The vivid colours are what stood for me. Such a strong contrast!

That's a great name for a national park! I love the top plant, the colour is radiant!

All these plants are beautiful and weird however
The blue one is widespread here, rather in gardens and sometimes in nature, along the freeway in the west part of France, for instance

Very unusual and beautiful plants - I knew that #1 almost had to be a variety of yucca from the few that I have seen. ec

Hi, benjamin potter. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Hope I didn't make you too homesick.

Hi, sage. Flowers definitely do brighten up the desert.

Hi, faye pekas. Glad you enjoyed them. I wish I was more up on plant names myself.

Hi, corinne. It's the contrasts that make them so beautiful.

Hi, san nakji. It is a beautiful plant. The evening sun shining on it makes it that much more pretty.

Hi, cergie. So you know some of these plants, too.

Hi, sarad. Some of these plants do take on their unique shapes. :)

Hi, moi. Every type of terrain has its own unique beauty.

Thanks, tai. Glad you enjoyed the pics.

Hi, mreddie. That yucca is quite beautiful and large to my eyes. But I guess it stays warm enough at the bottom of Texas to keep growing taller and taller.
