Last evening, the Indian Valley Soap Box Derby Association held practice runs on my home street in Souderton, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The real contest, the Annual Soap Box Derby, is to be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006 on Main Street. These soap box cars are manned by Indian Valley area children and are sponsored by local businesses. Anyway, below are three pictures of these cars going down the hill past my apartment. The fourth picture shows how these cars were transported back up the hill. I took these pictures out the window of my apartment. Some of these vehicles are really pretty neat.

That brings about memories of my soapbox derby days--I recently posted about them along with a picture of my first car. Thanks for being there to cheer on those kids! I know how exciting it can be and to know there are folks watching is nice.
Oh how fun, my boys would adore this!
Great movement shots.

wow!...how exciting,so much fun for kids....i wish i would be there to watch.
These kids are all well lowering their head so they will go faster !
Your appartment seems rather well placed, I wonder why you always need to walk out !
Reminds me of my friend Jes (6'04", 325) trying to get into my '90 Ford Festiva.
Go, Speed Racer!
oh! I want one!
WOW.. that looks like FUN! I bet my boy would LOVE to do that!
hmmmm amazing :)
dedicate this post to kids haan:)
takecare.
Hi, sage. I enjoy watching them, too, and it's so convenient going right by my home. Thanks.
Hi, andrea. I bet your boys would enjoy this. Thanks.
Hi, asma. At least I helped you to enjoy this from a distance. A lot of kids do participate in this activity.
Thanks, cergie. You're right that these kids are lowering their heads for the proper aerodynamics. Every bit counts in the real race.
Hi, chad. Yes, the space is rather cramped but there are weight limits the vehicles have to meet.
Hi, tai. They are neat. I think each kid builds their own with the help of a sponsorship of a local business.
Hi, consise10. Your son probably would love the thrill of racing these downhill. I think it would be fun myself if I could fit into one of them.
Hi, samrina. They are something else, aren't they? And kids are special with their dreams and goals.
I've always wanted to have a go of one of those things, we don't have them here though... :-(
What fun!!! And the cars look great too.
I saw a local commercial saying they are going to bring the Soap Box Derby races back here again.
I think that's exciting.

Hi, san nakji. I think they mostly intended for children. You might be rather cramped in one of them. However, since I think the children build them with the help of their local business sponsors, maybe you could build one of suitable size for yourself. :)
Hi, ava. Glad you enjoyed this post. And I hope they do bring back these races to your area.
That looks SOOOO fun!!! I've made the small derby cars, but never had one I could actually ride in.
Hi, trailady. I think it would be fun, too, just the picking up of speed as one headed downhill.
Aha, so that's where kids learn how to speed :) What a great memory for them. And for YOU, watching them go by your window.
Hi, ginnie. That may be one place where kids learn the thrill of speed. But I bet they learn it many other places, too, like on their bicycles or rollerskating and the like. And it is neat that it goes right by where I live.
