Views from the Home Farm - After the Blizzard

One of my favorite memories from when I used to live on the farm were the blizzards that came some years. The big blizzards didn't come every year and some years we hardly got any snow. But sometimes they made us homebound for a couple days. In this picture on top of one of the drifts is my pet dog Wolf. I miss him. He was a mongrel, a bit strange, and did not like to go on trips. But, oh, he was lots of fun. For this photo, you must click on picture to get the larger version for full appreciation.

In this picture is Sneakers, a Beagle who was my dad's pet, and Bear, a Schipperke who belongs to one of my brothers. The tractor and loader in the picture is how we cleared our long driveway.

I can't get over all the snow. It doesn't snow here so that is something amazing to me!

That was one of our bigger storms; it doesn't do that all the time. But if you don't experience snow where you live, I can understand how it would be quite amazing. Even for me, it's still awe-inspiring when these storms occur especially so when one gets over a foot of snow and the wind is howling.

I agree with san nakji...the closest I got to snow was when my school brought 45 tons of snow and placed it in the quad. They didn't even allow us to make snow balls! Some day I will see real snow...that is a promise.

Ah, rubysoho, you do have to experience snow sometime in your life. As kids we had lots of fun sledding in it, make snowmen, and having snowball fights. But I have never gone skiing. Going down a hill on an inner tube in chains of three to six other people on inner tubes was also quite fun though sometimes causing bruises.

Your dog Wolf must have been a treasured pet. My parents were raised in Pittsburgh, PA. They have many stories about the winter weather there. I enjoyed viewing your photos. I have snow skied and snow boarded all over the US and France. Heavenly Ski Resort at South Shore Lake Tahoe, Ca, was my favorite.

Thanks, windowtomymind, for stopping by. I appreciated your comments. People tell me that skiing is fun; but I just haven't ready to invest in that sport.

Snow is so fun! All our snow melted here, this winter has been VERY mild in Chicago.

cystal, you're right - snow is a lot of fun. I don't think I would want to live where there is never snow.

The snow pictures bring back great memories. There's nothing more fun to a kid than being "snowed in" for a couple days. We used to jump off the porch roof into the snowdrifts.

zanne, you're right. Snow made us kids quite excited and we loved to play in it. Snow still gets me excited usually in a quite positive way.
