Sunday Evening Birthday Celebration for My Second Oldest Niece

This evening a number of our family and friends got together to celebrate my second oldest niece's birthday. Below are a few pictures from the evening.

The photo above and the one immediately below shows us just as we were gathering at the supper table for a light meal.

Here is my niece and her birthday cake. Four different varieties of ice cream were served with the birthday cake.

Here are some of nephews and nieces playing and conversing.

The best time to enjoy birthdays is when you are young. It's good for us 'oldies' to sit back and watch too!

I love family gatherings.....it's fun to watch the kids interact with each other....now I can't wait for Christmas.......

I love just peeking in on Tim's family gatherings. In that last picture, I betcha those kids are plotting something with the boy on the chair the ringleader. ;-)

By the way Tim...the tablecloth in these pictures strangely resemble the tablecloth in your crockpot pictures. You didn't steal that from your mother, did you? ;-)

Does your father also grow watermelon, Tim.
Oh ! I love that kind of family fest so much... When somebody else is the organizer !

In fact, I love all family fest even if I have to be the organizer, Tim.

It looks like a very fun party--not to mention a very tasty cake as well!

Hi, san nakji. I think the best time to enjoy birthdays is every time! :) But, yes, it is especially fun to watch and participate in birthday celebrations for kids.

Hi, judypatoote. I agree. Family gatherings are great times to watch kids and catch up with the rest of the family. And Christmas will come in its time. :)

Hi, murf. If I recollect properly, I believe in this picture most of them were creating a story about alien creatures and having a lot of fun using their imaginations. And by the way, murf, this celebration was being held at the home of one of my seven brothers; although my Mom does have a tablecloth similar to mine. Perhaps we have similar tastes in tablecloth designs.

Thanks, samrina. These events do indeed help to make life more meaningful and joyous.

Hi, cergie. Yes, family fests are fun. As for watermelon, my dad does grow them; but this wasn't his. I don't know whether my brother grew this one or whether he bought it. We have some good farm markets around here. The watermelon was excellent.

Hi, etchen. You placed your comment while I was writing my response comments to the others; so I didn't omit you knowingly. Anyway, Thanks for coming by. And it was a great party with great cake and excellent ice cream.

Tim, I'm just in awe of you because you actually have a taste in tablecloth designs. :-)

I love the photos of your niece's birthday party, especially the first one because it is an amazing picture of several generations gathering to celebrate life!

Looks like the stuff of life to me.

And was her big number a 7? If so, she's one year older than Nicholas, so I have a feel for her age. I agree--birthdays are great at all ages. We celebrated Donica's step-dad's 70th on Saturday!

Looks great, my favorite gatherings are the big family things, for whatever reason. I would have just hung around close to the ice cream and let someone else have the cake. :) ec

Hi, murf. Now why shouldn't men have tastes in tablecloths!? I know some probably couldn't care less or some might say whatever pleases you pleases me. But I'm single; I the only one there is to put an artistic touch to my efficiency apartment.

Hi, charley. I enjoy it, too, that we can get together as several generations with all of us enjoying that intergenerational friendship. Intergenerational friendship is a significant part of the fullness of life.

Thanks, minka. And that birthday coindence for second oldest niece is fascinating. :) I wish her a belated happy birthday and the best year to come yet.

Thanks, anvilcloud. It sure is part of the stuff of life. :)

Hi, ginnie. Yes, she's seven now and a great kid! Part of the neat things of birthdays is that they provide occasions to celebrate life at any age. I wish Donica's step dad a belated happy birthday and great year to come.

Thanks, sage. Having four kinds of ice cream was a pleasant surprise.

Thanks, mreddie. Yes, the ice cream usually is more tasty than the cake. But have you ever tried mixing ice cream and cake together? That is delicious!

Thanks, merili. Often many celebrations seem bigger and more important when we were kids. But I think as we grow older, we need to learn ways to keep that excitement of a child about all aspects of life even birthdays. Sometimes it's hard; sometimes we don't quite reach that goal; but it is a worthy goal to strive for.

Thanks, spider girl. It was a nice party. And I thank you for her for your birthday congratulations.

That's just it, Tim. Most single guys could care less if their apartment had any artistic touches past maybe a neon beer sign. You're refreshing!

Oh, my. Did I see home-made bread? fresh honey? grape tomatoes? watermelon? And four different kinds of ice cream! Y'all must be Mennonite.

Hi, murf. Thanks for the complement.

Hi, kevin. Yes, we are Mennonite and we do like our food. Do you know many Mennonites?

Hi Tim, I haven't had any close acquaintances who are Mennonite since I left Atlanta nearly 20 years. The church I pastored there was located close to a Mennonite church and I came to love and appreciate the pastor of the Mennonite church very much. I belong to the Anabaptist Scholars Network and occasionally correspond with other members who are Mennonite, but I guess you are the only consistent contact I have with any Mennonite brethren.

Thanks, kevin. It is good to learn more about you. I had wondered in the past, too, whether you might not have at some time in the past contact with us Mennonites.
