Leaving Big Bend, Texas - 1997

Back in April/May 1997, I took a month long Southwest USA vacation. This post shows some photos from when I left Big Bend National Park down at the bottom of Texas next to Mexico. These photos were taken from along Routes 118 and 170 following the Rio Grande River much of the time.

Just outside Big Bend

Another stretch of the Rio Grande

A Texas rest stop along the Rio Grande

Still another view of the Rio Grande

Nice shots and beautiful start country. The Rio Grande looks pretty muddy. I need to be on vacation. I get itchy feet when I am home too long.

Wow! That rest stop sure makes all the others I've seen look plush and clean. I bet truck drivers don't even stop there. :-)

What was your favorite part of the month long trip?

I love seeing photos/film of these majestic wild areas in the US. Your photos really give a feel for the grandness of the landscape.

I can just imagine the pics you'd take now, Tim, if you went back! Actually, I'd like to go there myself some day. You've whetted my appetite. :)

There is such a difference between where you live and here. It's hard to believe it's the same country. Your country is so large!

Thanks, photowannabe. Traveling vacations like this are fun! Unfortunately just can't do such vacations all the time. :)

Hi, murf. I think this rest stop was mostly clean though not plush. Actually I thought this rest stop had an alluring touch to it.

Hi charley. I think the favorite part of my month long vacation was being able to live on the spur of the moment. No schedule or time requirements to stick to.

Thanks, kiwinomad 2006. The U.S. does have many majestic landscapes and wild areas though development keeps encroaching.

Thanks, mreddie. I think they were travelers.

Thanks, kevin stilley. Glad you enjoyed them.

Thanks, reflex. Those desert landscapes were beautiful to the senses.

Thanks, ginnie. That area is well worth visiting.

Thanks, photo-effe. Glad you enjoyed the photos.

Hi, san nakji. The differences in terrain and landscape across the US is majestic. And, yes, the US is large.

Thanks, shionge. Glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks, choochoo. I'm afraid that even if I were to go by I couldn't afford to send it overseas. ;)

Hi, paige. Texas does have a lot of beauty to appreciate. The parts of Texas that I enjoyed the most were the Hill Country and the Mountain sections.

Thanks, annie. It is well worth exploring especially the two sections of Texas I mentioned above.

Thanks, sage. To hear that is an honor for me.

Thanks, ed abbey. Big Bend and the surrounding areas is well worth anyone's time to visit if they enjoy the outdoors.
